On The Move’s Top 5 Tips for Water Preservation
Small changes often lead to big steps towards preserving and looking after our planet. By being mindful with the amount of water you use, you will be contributing to improving the planet’s water preservation initiatives.
In light of World Water Day (March 22nd), here at On The Move we took some time to educate ourselves on steps we can take every day to improve the world’s water consumption, and we wanted to share these with you.
TIP 1: BE MINDFUL WHEN BRUSHING YOUR TEETH
Majority of people leave the tap running whilst brushing their teeth, this can be up to 4 minutes, per person, per day if left running. Why not try turning the tap ‘off’ between rinsing and brushing? Turning taps off whilst not actively using the water could save up to 24 hours of running water per person, per year!
TIP 2: CUT YOUR SHOWER TIME DOWN
How long do you currently spend in the shower? Perhaps it’s 10 minutes, perhaps it’s 15, or maybe even 20 minutes. Shaving just one minute off of each shower will do our planet the world of good. Our special tip here is to set a ‘shower timer’.
TIP 3: AVOID PURCHASING PRE-PACKAGED WATER WHEN POSSIBLE
Investing in a reusable water bottle has benefits for you, not only our planet. Firstly, it will often save you money as there’s no need to buy water bottles daily. Also, you will probably feel more hydrated. For our planet you are limiting plastic waste and limiting bottled water consumption. It’s a win-win!
TIP 4: MAKE SURE YOUR DISHWASHER IS FULL BEFORE RUNNING IT
We’ve all been guilty of running a dishwasher cycle when it’s only half full, but the damage this does to our planet is irreversible. We recommend waiting for a full load before running your dishwasher to ensure you are being as ecologically friendly as possible with every wash.
TIP 5: CONSIDER INVESTING IN WATER-SAVING ELECTRONICS
Did you know that you can invest in showers, dishwashers, washing machines (and more) that aim to preserve more water? If you’re in need of a new washing machine, why not check out a range that is proud to preserve more water?
We hope these tips have offered some insight into the small steps you can take to be more water conscious.
